The Berry Dairy Days Smoke & Grill Competition & Public Sampling NEW location:

— SKAGIT RIVER PARK & PLAYFIELDS at 1100 South Skagit Street, Burlington, WA, 98233.

The Smoke & Grill will be open for PUBLIC SAMPLING on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
No Sampling and Closed to the Public on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Competition Team Important Dates:

  • Health Department Permit Deadline: Friday, May 24th, 2025, by 5:00 PM.

    • At least one team member must complete and return a Health Department Certificate and Health Department form by May 26th, 2025, to be included in Berry Dairy Days umbrella permit.

  • Application Deadline: Friday, May 24th, 2025, by 5:00 PM PST

  • Mandatory Team Meeting: To Be Determined

Competition FAQ

  • Yes! Public Sampling will be available on Saturday, June 21, 2025, ONLY from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

    Tokens must be purchased from the Berry Dairy Days Information Booth prior to sampling with the BBQ competitors.

    Sunday, June 22, 2025, is COMPETITION DAY, and public sampling will not be available.

  • YES, and it is encouraged!

  • We encourage all entries to snazz up their stations! Signage and decorations are welcomed.

  • Yes. At least one member of your team is required to have a food handlers permit.

  • After arrival, teams can start preparing their cooking site.

    • Public Sampling is ONLY available on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Competitors can begin preparing and cooking their meats only after the Skagit County Health Department has inspected your site.

    • Competition Day is June 22, 2025. PNWBA Head Judges will check your site and confirmed that your competition meats haven't been injected or seasoned yet, following the PNWBA rules. You are allowed to trim your meats before inspection. For more details, check the PNWBA registration.

  • RV and trailer sites are welcome for competitors. There will be no hook up or dumpsites available at Skagit River Park & Playfields. There will be parking in the proximity of the barbeque stations and campers are allowed. Booths cannot be left unsupervised at any time.

  • Yes, and it is included in your entry fee cost.

  • Yes. In order to remain a qualifier, a minimum number of entries for all 4 meat categories must be turned in on time. So if they are at the exact minimum, your lack of turn-in for a category would cause the event to no longer be a qualifier that would affect all teams who competed in the event.

  • The entry cost is $195 per team paid directly to the PNWBA.

  • BBQ Teams are responsible for reading the PNWBA team rules thoroughly.

    Friday, June 20, 2025- Load-in Day.

    -Load-in begins on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12:00PM.

    -Team site inspection between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

    -Quiet time is from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM daily.

    Saturday, June 21, 202- Public Sampling Day.

    -Public Sampling begins at 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

    Sunday, June 22, 2025- Competition Day.

    COMPETITION Turn-In Schedule
    Sunday, June 22, 2025 . Turn-in window is a 10 minutes. The following timeline will be followed:

    • Pork - 10:55:00 am to 11:04:59 am

    • Brisket - 10155:00 am to 12:04:59 pm

    • Chicken - 12:55:00 pm to 1:04:59 pm

    • Pork Ribs - 1:55:00 pm to 2:04:59 pm

    Awards will be announced at 5:00 PM (or earlier when possible)
